Welcome to Great Asby Broadband
We were set up in 2005 to secure broadband access to the Internet for households and businesses in Great Asby, and incorporated as a Community Interest Company in 2007. The conventional means of getting a broadband connection (by cable or by ADSL over a copper wire phone network) are not available in our village - so we use an alternative with two elements:
A fixed leased line to the village hall with an available bandwidth of up to 100 Mbps (we currently buy 20 Mbps)
A community wireless network of linked nodes situated around the village to which individual households can connect using a suitable wireless device.
Our network operates at 5.8Ghz system - see News. Most households currently get a connection with a bandwidth of about 15Mbps symmetrical. It should also be noted that wireless technology generally is subject to variable performance due to changing atmospheric and other conditions. Households and businesses in Great Asby are invited to become subscribers to Great Asby Broadband.
Elsewhere in our web-site you will find some information about our Service, and a village calendar.
